advice from a pediatrician to me
When my first son was a month old I took him to a chiro for his first adjustment, she warned me about vaccinations, thimerisol, and autism, she gave me a website to check out. At his 2 mo check up/1st vaccine apt I refused all vaccines and was made to sign a waiver which caused me to feel guilty and question my decision. At the 4 month checkup I was feeling guilty for not protecting him from all these horrible diseases. I asked the Dr. about the link between the vaccine and autism and the rise in autism rates.
Do we have comedians amongst us or are they taking words literally?
I have learned a few things about literal communication by having a child with autism. Take this example; I asked my son Jordan to go downstairs into the laundry room, and put the cloths that were just washed into the dryer. I assumed that he understood to place the cloths from the washer into the dryer and turn on the machine. Later, I headed down to the laundry room to fold the clothes that I thought would be dry.
AutismOne and Generation Rescue Rally in New Jersey
AutismOne and Generation Rescue are organizing a Rally in New Jersey because they are the first state to mandate the flu shot as a condition of daycare and preschool admission. That's great I commend them for doing something!! I wish I could go with them and march for the children's rights. What I say next is not to offend or upset anyone although it does seem I have a knack at doing that. Also, this is my own personal opinion and not of the site I am blogging on or anyone else's.

I am the busy mom of two wonderful boys, Zane 4 and Jake 2. Zane has pdd-nos, and we are getting wonderful results from biomed(4 hours away), aba(1 hour away), ot, pt, and speech, as well as preschool full time. I spend a lot of time researching and surfing the internet and trying to network with other families. I am dying to do something to help the cause! I am pretty good on the internet. I am so interested in raising awareness and would love to start an autism center in my community, there is nothing here, I have to take Zane an hour away for ABA therapy.
how much longer? DEMAND ACTION NOW
In 1962 my sister Kathy went to the doctor and got her shots so she could go to first grade. 2 weeks later my mother got a call from school saying there was something wrong with her. the doctor said she had a virus that stopped blood flow to her brain causing brain damage. That was 48 years ago and they are still giving vaccines to children. We have to change the way we give vaccines. THEY CAN"T STOP ALL OF US.
The joys of homeschooling...
As a homeschooling mother, I often have concerns about meeting educational expectations. I am blessed to have a daughter whom is also a teacher, and Kellie’s input and support are invaluable to me.
I would like to share a little interaction that I had today. We are currently immersed in the “human and animal” science block, studying the cow as a metabolic mammal. A good deal of time was spent laughing at my drawing of a cow, to which I was told, “It looks like a zombie.”
“O.K. So what does a cow give of value to man?”
Katie: ”Toppings for tacos?”
Jamie: ”Pizza?”

TAKES TO THE STREETS
Teachable moments
I found this guy hanging out in the door frame of my house trying to stay warm.
I doubt in 40° weather he'll go far from that crack. So, later today I will use interest in him as a "teachable moment" by relating the real world to the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" to talk about what happens, encourage reading, counting and speaking.
But he was still hungry...
Stay involved with your kiddo's programs even when they are at school!
A good friend of mine is a teacher in the state of Oregon. He teaches 4th grade and is a person of great quality, integrity, and leadership. All of these qualities, however, do not prepare you for dealing with children with spectrum disorders.
Because of underfunding, my friend’s school district moves spectrum children into typical classrooms without support. He has 26 kids in his class; 25 being typical and 1 being on the spectrum.
Oops I goofed on garden update!
It's taken me awhile to adjust to this format of networking.
I mistakenly posted to the garden group what I thought was here in my blog! You can find that post here

We just got a itouch for an assisted communications device. Oh boy, yet another thing to learn. But maybe I can use that to develop a story board to help make the connection between planting and harvesting mentioned in that post.
