Are we really living in the Year 2009?

There are times in my journey to save the world and change the lives of those with Asperger's Sydnrome/Autism, that I question "Why am I doing this? Why not let someone else take up the fight?" and recently these thoughts have been on my mind. Fate, though, has a unique way of helping you answer these questions.

It's Asperger's Syndrome

If you're reading this article, chances are your child/student has just been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (or there's a possibility they will be!) and you're searching the internet for any information that may help you make sense of the diagnosis. I'm fairly certain that you left the Paediatricians' office with just that one piece of information – “Your child has Asperger's Syndrome”. I'm confident you didn't receive an information kit containing:
• In depth explanation of the characteristics of Asperger's Syndrome;

Neurofeedback - Our Story

Our family are BIG fans of the benefits of Neurofeedback. By the time we found out about neuro our family was at breaking point – our son with Asperger's Syndrome had been angry, violent and out of control for 3 ½ years( from halfway through Year 6 to Year 9 – aged 10 -13). He was prone to massive tantrums/meltdowns that lasted hours, with the only safe way to deal with them being to physically restrain him. He'd not been to school for any more than a few days at a time for 3 ½ years.

Day Five - Epcot and Animal Kingdom

Yesterday was our day off - lots of time in the pool and naps!
This morning we started out at Epcot. We went to the Nemo ride and Turtle Talk with Crush (really impressed with the technology to do that). I loved the Soarin' ride - so did the rest of my family, so we went on it twice. The Land boat ride was closed.
Then we cut across and went on Mission space (the big golf ball). It was pretty dull, but we can say we went on it.

Lost and Found

CDC quietly revises autism rates to 1% of US children

Given that autism is the number one pediatric health crisis in the world today one could reasonably expect that the CDC would loudly announce – as it does every new case of swine flu – any significant change in rates or cases reported.

Those that follow the CDC’s behavior know, like the SEC and the FDA, the CDC is a badly-compromised government agency and the autism pandemic is largely a product of its flawed policies and practices.

Day Three - Disney's Animal Kingdom

Today was HOT! The recorded temperature was in the 90s, but it felt like over 100. It was a good day to do the smallest park with the ride that gets you the most wet!

We started out in Dinoland riding the Triceratops. I knew the kids liked that Dumbo-like ride. We went on it a few times. Then we tried out the small roller coaster there. Kyle and Ella loved it so we went on again. It was tame enough even for me.

Buried treasure...

This morning I had a gaggle of 20-year-old young women in my kitchen. Not a klinker in the bunch, Lauren and her friends were chatting, laughing and the “one-day-to-be” pastry chef, Hollie, was preparing glorious waffles.

Mornings such as this are the “buried treasure” of life. As the mother of five ranging from 31 to 9, I have had my share of good times, bad times, tears, sorrow, grief, joy and laughter. During the difficult times we often forget the blessed times. Maybe this is the meaning of life… balancing the joy with the sorrow.

Day Two - Disney Hollywood Studios

We had the whole family together today. I refuse to go on rollercoasters, but I have a 6-year-old thrill seeking roller coaster junkie who was more than willing to go on rollercoasters with Daddy. So, Ella and Ryan went on the Rock 'n Roller coaster twice - they had to use the fast pass since Kyle wasn't going along to use his Guest Pass. They also went on the Tower of Terror. Ryan did not know anything about either of these rides, so was surprised. Ella had been pretty well briefed ahead of time. Ryan went back on the Tower with Kyle - the picture is great.

First day at the Magic Kingdom

We got a later start than I had planned because this was the one night a month that Kyle was up at 3:30am and stayed up. Today was hot and I thought it was crowded. This is off-peak,and isn't there supposed to be a recession? Not at Disney.
