Autism One Conference 2009
Autism One’s 6th Annual International Conference held, May 22nd – May 24th at the Westin O’Hare in the wonderful city of Chicago has been the best conference yet!
Presenters flew in from all over the world to share the latest innovative autism treatments available.
Global Autism Activism
I believe that the whole world has to respond to autism.
I Feel Like I'm The Pied Piper!
Something strange is happening. I feel a little like the Pied Piper! Wherever I am, a child with Autism is always in close proximity. It seems as though every time I am at the grocery store waiting in those long lines, I spot a mom trying to control her son while onlookers grimace with disgust.
In Costco, I witnessed a young couple trying to control their waling child. People were looking at this couple like, “… OMG can’t you control your kid!” until finally, the father picked the six or seven year old up and left the building.
Welcome - Words Win Wars
Greetings! It gives me great pleasure to welcome you. Our new website follows and extends the curve of our founding principles: Parents are, and must remain the driving force of our community, the stakes are too high and the issues too sacred to delegate to outside interests.
The AutismOne conference has always been a conversation of hope recognizing “none of us is smarter than all of us,” while encouraging and embracing independent thought – but, once a year in Chicago is not enough. The conversation needs your thoughts, ideas, and experiences year round.
My online support group is growing
Today I have spent many hours with new members that have joined our online support group. It is exciting that so many people are getting the message about recovery. Here is a link to our group if you would like to join. It is open to everyone. I am located in Canada, but we have members that come from all over the world. We have just over 100 members but lately we have added about 5 new members per day.

Exercise at its Best
Yesterday I was working out and saw what I have been advocating for, for the past 6+ years.
I was working out at a track near my house. There is not much there but a track, some pull-up bars, stairs, and my bag of equipment. As I was running a few laps on the track I noticed a dad walking up with his two boys and girl.

Meet Dustin Nunn, Author, Cartoonist, Adult with Autism
We're happy to introduce you to Dustin Nunn, a twenty year old author and cartoonist in Marietta, Ohio who also happens to be an adult with autism. A loyal A of A reader (shout out to AK!) sent us a link to Dustin's site. We hope you'll buy a copy of his book HERE. You see, at Age of Autism, "awareness" didn't end on April 30th, nor does support within our community.

Exercise Connection Thank You
It has now been 3 days since the conference and I am still at a loss for words. I had the opportunity to meet so many great parents, families, doctors, and people involved in the lives of our children.
I want to personally thank Ed and Teri. Thank you for this incredible opportunity, I am so blessed to be apart of Autism One and hope that I can continue to bring my expertise to the families of Autism One.
Back to the Garden
"And we got to get ourselves back to the garden" - Joni Mitchell
Well I am back home from A1. Happy to see my son - who grew a wonderful yeast farm in his gut while we were gone - and happy to be back to our garden.
With planting in full swing, A1 couldn't occur at a worst time of year for me. This year with Memorial Day falling a week earlier things were even worse - gardenwise. One week makes a big difference.
