The Peanut Allergy Epidemic
1.4% of US children, about 1 million, have a life threatening allergy to peanut. In researching causes, doctors have dismissed precedents for mass allergic phenomena such as serum sickness. This post-vaccinal illness in children prompted the creation of new words c.1900 to describe its symptoms: allergy, anaphylaxis. Historical evidence, from peanut oil in penicillin to the allergy inducing effects of aluminum in vaccines implicates injection as the primary mechanism in this allergy epidemic.
