Rubella: wild disease moms vs vaccine moms in relation to the MMR and implications for autism
Toni Bark, MD
Dr. Bark will be discussing the concept of wild disease moms vs vaccine moms in relation to the MMR and specifically rubella. Most women by childbearing age were immune to rubella, but since moms are no longer acquiring their immunity via natural infection, 9-15% of all pregnant women screened are negative for antibodies to rubella. 10% of these women seroconvert in pregnancy and many convert back.
The women who tested negative are vaccinated with the MMR within 24 hours of delivery. 53% of these women shed live rubella virus in their breast milk.
Rubella is the only medical accepted infectious cause of autism.
