I hope you're doing well. I know we each have our days it’s a real struggle to get through. Though I’m not familiar with the difficulties of having a non-verbal child , I am sure I can relate in many other ways.
Hi Suzanne
Let me extend to you my personal welcome to our AutismOne Social Network. AutismOne is now the “one-stop-shopping center” for information about autism. We have the annual conference in Chicago, AutismOne radio, the Elizabeth Birt Center for Autism Law and Advocacy and now the AutismOne Social Network (and more to come).
Thank you for filling in your profile entries as these help people with common interests find you.
Helping you interact with others is one of the many things we can do for you. Now here’s something you can do for us. Every new community requires a good hard kick start to get going. We need you to help us with that. Log in on a regular basis and read the blogs and articles then write a blog yourself. It can be on any subject of interest to you, preferably with some relevance to autism but not necessarily. It can be short or long, whatever it takes for you to express your thoughts. If you have a question then ask it in a blog--people read then they respond. If you see something with which you agree or disagree then please add a comment with your thoughts. This is an open community designed to help and support. We like to hear all sides.
I am looking forward to reading your opinions in future blogs and/or articles.
With my best regards
Will Price, CFO

Hi Suzanne,
My name is Rhonda Brunett, I am a member and associated with Autism One International.
I have a son who has autism and was non-verbal until the age of five, he stated facts at times but did not communicate his needs.
I personally started taking sign langauge classes and using the pec's system using them together and provided many schedules with visuals displayed all over my home. Socially I read books Nelle Frances books I recommend them. www.nellefrances.com Linda Hodgdon has wonderful books for behavior and visual presentation's to use at home in school and with in the community. www.UseVisualStrategies.com. There's Taca www.tacanow.org for support and help with the beginning stages of biomedical treatments. I have my son's journal published From Autism To All-star. www.autism2allstar.com. I hope this helps you out somewhat. Rhonda Brunett
I hope you have your son is enrolled in a speech program, see what they are doing with in the classroom and follow though at home(:
Keep him surrounded with other children as much as possible he will begin to mimic the language in good ways and bad ways so be careful of who he interacts with. I learned that the hard way! lol
