Language skills are on going, Jordan is sixteen and it's still a continual process.
We laugh a lot he'll say things like: I'm as thirsty as a monkey, I'll reply, I think you might mean camel Jordan(: then I explain why he would use camel instead of monkey.
If I may offer a suggestion read and ask lots of questions we started off using Barnes and Nobles Reading Comprehension Books.
We started with three simple words and eventually added on to that.
Example:
(The yellow school bus)
Jordan please point to the yellow school bus.
What color is the school bus?
We also would offer information to Jordan about yellow school buses.
Slowly we added on more words and asked more questions building his comprehension.
Example:
(The yellow bus picks up the girl and boy for school.)
Who picks up the boy?
Who picks up the girl?
What color is the bus?
I'm sure you are already doing this I'm sharing because it made all the difference in the world!
