Let me extend to you my personal welcome to our AutismOne Social Network. AutismOne is now the “one-stop-shopping center” for information about autism. We have the annual conference in Chicago, AutismOne radio, the Elizabeth Birt Center for Autism Law and Advocacy, the AutismOne Social Network and the AutismOne Store.

We urge you to log in on a regular basis and read the blogs and articles. If you see something with which you agree or disagree then please add a comment with your thoughts. This is an open community designed to help and support. We like to hear all sides.

Then write a blog, long or short, to express your thoughts or ask a question. I am looking forward to reading your opinions.

With my best regards,
Ed Arranga Executive Director AutismOne.org

A Little About Me:

My name is Kimberly, I'm a 32 year old female from sunny California. I am a wife to my high school sweet heart, Larry, and mother to my son Anthony and daughter Ashley.

Why I am a Part of the AutismOne Community:

I am part of AutismOne because 2 years ago, my son was diagnosed with a autism spectrum disorder. His #1 issue was being completely mute at the age of 3. He had been in speech therapy since he was 18 months old, but there was no progress. His therapists were trying everything, and still my son stayed silent. He started to develop sensory issues. Hoarding food in his mouth, drooling, toe walking, rubbing his head on the carpet, doing repetitive play, not looking us in the eye. Even though our pediatrician (and other specialists) told us it was nothing to worry about, my gut was telling me something was very wrong! I felt like I had no one else to turn to. Although he was in ST & OT therapy, his therapists couldn't even recommend where I should take him. All they knew is he wasn't improving. During this time, when I was at my lowest as to what to do for my son, I ended up talking on the phone to an on-line friend I had met. Her son was diagnosed w/Autism.I told her all of Anthony's symptoms, she started to tell me how her son had been helped by a DAN dr. I had never heard of this medical field. But so much of what she told me made sense. So I found one on line. Dr. Eric Sletten of Ventura CA. A year & a half after treatment started, my son is "typical". He no longer qualifies for OT, because his sensory issues are gone. He went from the verbal skills of a 12 month old to age approp. in 9 months time. He is now 100% therapy free! He attends mainstream preschool and has made lots of friends. This all would not of been possible with out Dr. Sletten. He ran all the tests that needed to be ran, got my son on the correct supplements got him on the correct diet, & released him from treatment because he's doing so well.
