Welcome Angelina,

I'm so glad you have become a part of the Autism One Community! For parents that may need assistance or information in the Special Education Department, Angelina will be able to properly assist you with understanding and implementing effective strategies for learning. I have seen her work in action, and I have so much respect for her knowledge and her teaching ability. Thank you for stepping up to the plate once again you truly are a winner!

A Little About Me: 

I received my Bachelors Degree in Special Education from Illinois State University in 2000 and my first Masters Degree in Special Education from National-Louis University in June 2006. I received a second Masters Degree in School Leadership/Administration from Concordia University in 2007 and National Board Certification for Special Education K-21 in 2008. I taught in Peoria Public School District 150 from 2000-2002 and am presently employed by Community Consolidated School District 93 where I have taught since 2002 in the self-contained classroom for students with autism ages K-4. I work mostly with children who have moderate to severe ASD with significant communication, sensory, and social deficits....however learning still takes place even in the general education enviornment :-) !

In my years of experience I have worked with students ranging from early childhood to middle school age. I have attended numerous trainings on ASD and have vast experience in the following areas: Visual communication strategies, PECS, TEACCH, structured classrooms, Discrete Trial, ABA Therapy, functional behavior analysis, and behavior intervention/modification programing. I also has participated in sensory integration trainings and use a sensory-based approach with students in her classroom. I also have experience with public speaking and facilitating trainings on autism for parents and educators as well as providing in-home consultations and support for parents.

These workshop were designed to provide parents, educators, and health care professionals with information on the specialization of a team approach in helping children on the Autism Spectrum. Participants will have hands on opportunity to become familiar with the roles of each discipline and the theory of sensory integration. Exploring current treatment techniques, and strategies that can be incorporated into the home and classroom environments.

I have a wide interest when it comes to musical taste. If it sounds good I will listen to it. I love lisenting to anything 70's and I am a diehard 80's child. My favorite bands include Areosmith, Metallica, and Led Zepllin and I love all kinds of Rap and R&B music. Not a big fan of Cold Play type bands or the Beatles and I really don't get U2.
TV Shows: 
I am a VH1 and MTV reality show fanatic. I am also addicted to People's Court, Judge Mathis, and Judge Joe Brown. I love watching Nickalodeon and cartoons because it helps to keep me sane and I can better relate to my students! Greys Anatomy, The Practice, Nip/Tuck, House, and Bones are a few other shows on TiVo.
Movies: 
Too many to choose from...The Color Purple, Rain Man, Shawshank Redemption, A Christmas Story, Juno, Napoleon Dynamite, 40 Year Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, Blood Diamond, The Other Sister, Dreamgirls, and Blow just to name a few.
