Wandering: Keeping Our Loved Ones Safe
Incidents of missing children and wandering-related deaths are being reported in the news with frightening frequency. Drowning deaths associated with autism elopement remain a leading cause of fatalities among children and adults on the autism spectrum. This presentation will discuss recently published data on wandering and its effects on the family, lessons learned from case studies, implementation of prevention strategies at home and school, and resources for caregivers.
Wendy Fournier
Wendy is a founding board member and president of the National Autism Association. She is committed to changing the perspective of autism from what was once considered a mysterious mental illness to a biologically definable and treatable medical disorder. She speaks at conferences throughout the US, currently serves on the RI State Commission on the education of children with autism, and as a reviewer for the US Department of Defense Autism Research Program.
