Wandering: Keeping Our Loved Ones Safe

In a 2007 online poll through the National Autism Association, 92% of parents reported that their child/ren with autism have a tendency to wander. Incidents of missing children and wandering-related deaths are being reported in the news with frightening frequency. Drowning deaths associated with autism elopement remain a leading cause of fatalities among children and adults on the autism spectrum. This presentation will discuss prevention strategies and provide resources for caregivers.

Wendy is a founding board member and president of the National Autism Association.
She is committed to changing the perspective of autism from what was once considered a mysterious mental illness to a biologically definable and treatable medical disorder. She speaks at conferences throughout the US, currently serves on the RI State Commission on the education of children with autism, and as a reviewer for the US Dept. of Defense Autism Research Program.
