Lyme Disease in Autism: Diagnosis and Treatment Options
Lyme disease is often referred as the “Great Imitator” because patients with the disease present with neurological and physical symptoms found in other conditions. The author will summarise the knowledge gained in this field, from diagnosis to understanding the pathological processes taking place, as well as the naturopathic and antibiotic treatment options available. She will draw parallels between Lyme’s and other chronic infections affecting individuals with Autism.
Lorène Amet, PhD
Dr Lorene Amet is trained as a neuroscientist (brain development, brain ischemia and epilepsy) and in special education (Autism). She worked in Edinburgh, Oxford and Princeton Universities before joining the Autism Treatment Trust in Edinburgh. Dr Amet is also trained in administering the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised (ADI-R) used for the diagnosis of autism.
