Autism, Sex, and Sexuality: A Conversation with Parents and Professionals

Although generally difficult to talk about in an open and honest manner, sex and sexuality are central to our understanding of ourselves as individuals. Information on issues surrounding sexuality of individuals with autism is often lacking. Personal characteristics, circumscribed interests, sensory sensitivity and worldview along with interpersonal difficulties can be problematic and challenging. This presentation will discuss these challenges, as well as the parent's role.

Mary Joann Lang, PhD, ABPN, B

Dr. Mary Joann Lang is a professor at Azusa Pacific University. She is involved in intervention programs for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Lang manages a school for children with autism and related disabilities, as well as an in-home therapy program. Currently, she is conducting research on parental attitudes towards sexuality and adolescents with ASD.

David Morrison, EdD

Dr. David Morrison is a professor at Azusa Pacific University. He is involved in intervention programs for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Morrison directs an in-home therapy program. Currently, he is conducting research on parental attitudes towards sexuality and adolescents with ASD.
