Autism & Epilepsy:
Dr. Buchhalter will discuss types of seizures and epilepsies and EEG findings in children with ASD. He will address the most frequently asked questions and present research findings comparing children with ASD and the general population. This presentation will look at reported causal factors; at interictal epileptiform EEG abnormalities, and at the profound implications of treating individuals with ASD who have interictal EEG discharges.
Jeffrey Buchhalter, MD, PhD
Dr. Buchhalter served as division head at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester) and is currently at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where he is also Director of the Pediatric Comprehensive Epilepsy Program and Professor of Pediatrics (College of Medicine-University of Arizona, Phoenix). He completed his MD and PhD at the UCLA School of Medicine and his pediatric residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He has trained in pediatric neurology, clinical neurophysiology and cellular electrophysiology.
