Advanced Special Education Topics
The presenters will address advanced special education topics, including: Does you school district have an obligation to maintain your child's educational records under FERPA? Can bullying be considered a denial of FAPE? Can an IEE be granted on a contingency by your district? Has your district threatened and intimidated you that if you pursue a claim against them and lose, they will seek collection of its attorney's fees against you? Answers to these questions and many others will be discussed.
Timothy A. Adams, Esq., Esq.
Tim has served as adjuncy professor and Associate Director of the Special Education Advocacy Clinic, Pepperdine University School of Law. He is actively involved in educating parents on special ed law, including AutismOne, the National Autism Association, the National Epilepsy Foundation Annual Conference and Talk About Curing Autism (TACA). He has trained Orange County Superior Court Judges regarding special education law. He is Adam & Associates' Principal.
Mara LaViola
Mara is a graduate of Cornell University and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. As a parent of two children with disabilities, she advocates for disabled children and education issues on national, state, and local levels. Mara has received many awards for her advocacy work and dedicates much of her time to helping families obtain free appropriate public education for their children. She is an active member of COPAA and has served on state policy committees, providing input on disabilities rights.
