The dog ate my homework and other excuses used to avoid facing truth about Autism
I think I have heard it all now. In the known civilized world there is no reason for a teacher to be hitting, yelling at, and physically abusing a student. If that student is non-verbal and dealing with Autism it rises to the level of criminal negligence, even assault and battery. Well that is happening more than we like to admit. I am not sure why but society gets more wound up about Michael Vick abusing dogs than the continuing abuse of those with Autism. I will be referring to the video here… http://www.wpxi.com/news/20524432/detail.html

A lesson in Autism
Now that my soon to be five year old son with ASD is approaching his birthday, we have been practicing what that is, what a party will look like and some of the related issues of time. A very anxiety filled event for him, birthdays are scary. Teaching a child about the passage of time is hard enough, throw autism into the mix and you just never know what you'll get. Thru our journey into understanding all this, he's found a new favorite question: "How old are you?" Most four/five year olds repond ok to this - it is something most typical kids ask other kids.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF WINES AND AUTISM
How it all started...
Two years ago while I was having breakfast with my husband at our local restaurant, a crazy idea dawned on me.
I saw all of these little milk boxes on the tables of customers eating their cereals and I noticed the depressing advertisement of a missing child with his picture and a phone number to contact. Although very depressing to read about another missing child I thought that the concept to help find that child was brilliant. Everybody drinks milk except a few of us for some good reason...

If I had only known then what I know now...
Children with autism arrived at our practice's doorstep before we ever expected to see it. Since my personal practice of homeopathy had already been taking "all comers" I went into the first consultation with a child with autism before really knowing what I was seeing. He had no formal diagnosis and things had only turned sour a few days earlier. It was a young man whose parents had taken him bowling the night of Hallowe'en and had somehow seen a horrible change in him, presumably after that night.

The Church and Our Children
I am becoming increasingly concerned with the state of the “Christian” churches in this country. While the vast majority of them rightfully concern themselves with the message of salvation through God’s son Jesus Christ, aren’t we also called upon as Christians to care for our planet and those that inhabit the earth? Why is it so hard then, to get the message out that we are poisoning our children and our planet? When I speak to Christians about the vaccine issue, I get the same response: “what about Polio?” Unfortunately, they don’t stick around long enough for the answer.

With Autism... Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes, Activities & Early Intervention
When my child turned three years old, he was accepted into a Special Education Pre-school Program in District 93.
The results of this assessment showed that at three years of age my child was 18 months developmentally.
The IEP team included a Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and a Special Education Teacher.
They distributed informational packets for the parents to take home and read.
The team suggested working on these exercise’s at home everyday.

Birds & Bees talks really can not be one sided. Autism & Puberty
I used to tell my employees you have two choices. You can either laugh or you can cry. Nothing around here is worth crying about so find a way to laugh at the situation. This is not a funny topic folks people are chemically castrating young men and have urged me to do so... Check out this article.... http://tinyurl.com/nm6qas
