A Blanket for a Sail (Harry Nilsson) Day 30

Way out on the ocean
Far beyond the seven seas
There’s a tiny little boat
Faith is keeping her afloat
And a tiny little skipper
With his worn and tattered coat

Military Families Battle Autism

The following letter is from Karen Driscoll. I also have an article about Autism and the Military Family in the current issue of Autism File Magazine.
--------------
Dear Family, Friends, and Military Supporters,

Vitamin D

I recommend that all children have their Vit D levels checked
The doctor should order a 25OH Vit D3 level- the optimal level is between 60 and 80. Recent studies have shown benefits from Vit D in children with ASD Most children require at least 1000 iu of Vit D3 daily which is much less than is found in most supplements

It's just me

Hello! It seems that the recent HBOT study by CARD really misses the mark. To add to the body of studies and literature on HBOT, it would seem to me that only using 24% oxygen was completely counter-intuitive. My understanding has been that the benefits of HBOT were attained by increasing the oxygen content of the blood. Using an oxygen content of near ambient room air does not help in trying to determine whether HBOT therapy, with its current protocal, is or is not helpful to kids with ASD. It makes me question the purpose of the study and why good research money would be wasted?

Lauren-o-pickle-o-cookie-o

Lauren. Just look at that face. You know the one… you can see the “I’m trouble” twinkle in her eyes. My two oldest daughters; Kellie on the left and Lauren on the right.

At 20 years old, Lauren is the drama queen, extraordinary athlete and the girl who drives the laughter from me when I am aching inside. When my heart is breaking and my thoughts are filled with, “How do I continue to cope? How do I keep myself focused and moving forward when I have one (or more) of my children spiraling out of control?

There are no depths of grief that Lauren cannot pull me from.

Imagine all the people living life in peace

In this moment I find myself longing for a peaceful world not only for myself but for all mankind. I’m not talking about living like a hermit or being a recluse on some far off island. What I want is more peace in my life.
Recently, I had this overwhelming feeling of being bombarded by negativity; it comes at you from every direction. The news in general is negative. In fact everything I read has a damaging effect on my peace of mind. I hate turning on the news, because I know I’m going to fall into this pessimistic trap. It is emotionally exhausting!

Glutathione Pathway

Has your DAN! doctor ordered a MTHFR gene test? It is available through Quest labs. It will give you an idea of whether or not your child has a defect in the methylation pathway. This info can help determine whether or not your child is likely to benefit from methyl B12 injections.

Restoration and Respect

The Greatest Sins

The greatest sin Wired Magazine committed in publishing a hit piece about AutismOne was not against us, but against all the young women who work there.

A workplace comes with its own implicit codes of conduct, belief systems, and dogma. They are the unwritten rules we learned about on playgrounds in grade school.

Never talked about, they became part of how we self-corrected our own thoughts and behaviors from kindergarten through high school to stay within one standard deviation of acceptable.
